Starting a New Life Chapter

Welcome to My Blog "Discovering Kefalonia"!

Hi there, my name is Nora and I started this blog to note for my own and share the observations, reflections and aspects of my upcoming new life phase with my family, friends and interested persons. With my new life phase I mean that in summer 2022 I move with my family to Kefalonia, Greece, where my husband comes from.

Having lived in several countries and places over the last 2 decades, it's the first time that I don't move alone, but rather with my two children and my husband, with no definite return date. It's also for the first time that I move to a rural site, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, which has a lot to offer but which is definitely different from the cities I've lived so far such as NYC, Mexico City, Kampala, Damascus or Zürich. I will be exploring what it means to work remotely, as I plan to continue working on the topics and areas that are dear to my heart - education, refugees and impact-driven initiatives - out of Greece.

What the blog is about

I plan to write about my observations coming in as an external but yet familiar to live on this beautiful island, and what it means to adapt to the Greek island lifestyle. As a Social Anthropologist by original training, I hope I will be able to catch interesting aspects of this corner of the earth and I would like to share these with you. As I am convinced that each place with its historical and cultural richness offers something exciting to learn from, I want to use social media channels such as this blog to make this richness also visible in nowadays' globalized world where a lot of people have the impression that live resembles everywhere the same.
